Mike just bought Dry Martini IV, a 1974, 35 foot Cigarette once owned by
Carlo Bonomi. Carlo won the Cowes Torquay race in England with earlier version of the
boat in 1974. Mike drove in the shorter Cowes Poule race this year during a
visit to his family and won. Next year is the 50th anniversary of the 225
mile Cowes Torquay race and Mike decided it was a once in a lifetime chance.
I'm going as the navigator, and an English racer will be the throttle man.
Currently Mike has the engines out and completely disassembled. He is also
going through the drives and all the rest of the boat as well. It's in
great shape considering its age. The original paint is still nearly
perfect.

It's starting to be a busy summer

It's starting to be a busy summer. I'm slowly getting moved in but the last of my shop needs to be moved. Darren and I are planning to move it soon after I get back from the Nationals which are running all the next week. I just ran my first class and was 4th. I even won one of the four heats. No trophy, but I was happy since I just built the boat two weeks ago. I will be running three more classes, so we will see how it goes. I am a race official as well, running four classes and the pre race testing session that starts at 7:00 AM.

Three weekends ago I helped my friend, Mike Bontoft, race his full sized outboard at a "real" boat race. I was surprised how much it was like the model races. He promises to help me with my racing this week after his full sized boat race this weekend. I'm looking toward seeing Greg and Sadie as soon as I get home.

I finally have a real internet connection of my very own! It's almost done after a morning of crawling through the crawl space and trenching through the back yard. The rain is getting to be a little to heavy, so I'm leaving the very last for another day. Jenny now has my mother's old computer, so everyone now has a computer of their very own. We'll see if it's a good thing.

The neighbors are starting to come out in the sun. There are lots of young couples with kids as well as some older couples. If I can only remember everyone's name.

I got real glasses today. I hope that ends the saga of my eye surgery. Jenny has been organizing like a mad woman so the front house is almost normal. My room is still a work in progress. I hope to get more unpacked this weekend and figure out how to connect to the internet from back there.

We now have internet access, land phone, and cable tv. I still have a few things at my apartment, but officially live at the new house. Both papers come here and I hope to get keys to the mailbox by Friday. Darren built me a closet and is working hard on the bathroom. It's starting to feel like home.

I'm dead. We got Jenny and the boys moved Friday, and I moved today. We couldn't have done it without the help of two workers from Centro Latino (sp?). Thanks Sue. Thanks to Yayoe and Adam as well nearly all my shop and boats are moved over. It will take tomorrow to get my room setup and then comes the bathroom construction and new shop setup.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. This is the year for big presents: a new house, new eyes, and a social security check. Yes, we really are moving in. Jenny will be first on Friday and most of my stuff will follow on Saturday. I probably won't really move in until next week.

Well, thanks to screw ups by the title company and issues with the title search, we won't be moving this weekend. I hope to get the keys and start cleaning and construction next week. The big move by Jenny and me is now scheduled for next weekend. My second eye surgery is also scheduled for next Wednesday, complicating everything. Keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks to Adam (of course) I've exceeded all my life goals. I'm now a card carrying (AARP and Medicare), dirty, old, BIONIC man! My right eye now is corrected to 20/20 without glasses. The only problem is that my left eye with glasses sees a smaller image so I'm learning how not to see double. Driving is a little unnerving.

We officially got the house! The exact closing date will be around February 25. Jenny and I are going shopping for a washer, dryer, and refrigerator this morning. We plan to stimulate the economy even more with remodeling (a new bathroom for me), furniture, and other household purchases. I'm applying for Federal bailout money as we speak.
