November 26

Belated birthday greetings to Sam. 15 years - amazing! Just for the record - November 26, 2013 would have been Franklin Miller's 100th birthday.

Ben and Emma's Wedding

October 09, 2013 by Danica in Danica Miller

The wedding was fabulous! I only wish that more of you could have come for it, but I know - far away, and Monday work obligations.

It was great to have Lohring and Ana, Sadie and Greg, Jed, Amara and Satchi with us.  Also here and practically like family were Nordie and Paul Sundberg, JD Sloan and Carly Wade. JD photographed the event and there will be many photos posted eventually. Meanwhile he sent me this one today - I love it! (reception was at Good Luck Restaurant where Emma has worked for three years and for whom she started this garden) I also updated the Wedding blog today to include the same photo along with the reading by Alex Degus, poet and good friend of Ben and Emma's throughout high school at SOTA and college at Bard. http://ben-and-emmas-wedding.tumblr.com/weddingDay

The bride and groom were off today for their honeymoon - tonight overlooking the Hudson in Rhinecliff, and then on to NYC for several days of taking in everything from theater and dance performances to, of course, carefully selected restaurants.

Dorothy

July 21, 2013 by Danica in Danica Miller

Although I haven't read all the travelogues, a cursory glance gives me the impression that everyone had a wonderful journey. Merveilleux!

I too spent Bastille Day in a French mode celebrating with a few members of the Rochester-Rennes Sister Cities Committee at a cottage on Conesus Lake.

I wanted everyone to know that Dorothy seems to have started the end of her life's journey. She had a bad spell with breathing last night which was gotten under control with Atavin. We started morphine a couple hours later once the order had gone through. I've been playing a little music for her and reading some poetry. Actually started with that routine last week while she was still up, if not around. Then it was Frost. Last night I started on cummings and Dickenson (a sample below).

The east coast heat wave has finally broken and today dawned sunny and cooler. Send a little breeze of a thought Dorothy's way to help speed her peacefully on to the next level.

Love to all-
Danica

photos of Dorothy at Thanksgiving 2012 and Easter 2011

any experience, your eyes have their silence;

in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,

or which I cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me

though I have closed myself as fingers,

you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens

(touching skillfully, mysteriously) her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, I and

my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,

as when the heart of this flower imagines

the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals

the power of your intense fragility: whose texture

compels me with the colour of its countries,

rendering death and forever with each breathing

(I do not know what it is about you that closes

and opens; only something in me understands

the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)

nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands
