January 27, 2001 by Adam in Family
We went to visit Seraph, Robbie, and Isabell today. She's quite the healthy baby, very active and constantly eating. For the most part, she seems to be doing well. She sleeps pretty good, though a couple nights ago she cried for an hour or so. That's not bad in my book, as I fondly remember the complete lack of sleep after Sam was born. Ah, the good ol' days.

Sam got a new Baby Animal book
January 27, 2001 by Adam in Family
Sam got a new Baby Animal book. He was pretty excited, as Tommy and Tess (two of the main characters) are his alter egos. I think I've made up stories about Tommy and Tess to Sam hundreds of times. When we're in the car, I tell one or two about them, and putting him to bed usually results in a half-dozen. As soon as we got it in the mail, he started looking at it and wanting me to read it to him. Very cute.

January 24, 2001 by Adam in Family
Well, we went back later in the afternoon, took some pictures, and let Sam play with his new cousin. They're doing great, and Seraph looks wonderful, considering everything.
I also posted a couple movies, one where we were joking around before the actual birth, and another of the main event.

January 23, 2001 by Adam in Family
Well, I finally made it over to see Seraph and Robbie. They were doing phenomenally well. Seraph looked great and Isabell was active and very aware. Evidently the labor was short and relatively easy. They delivered shortly after I left - about 9:45 PM on the 22nd.
Isabella was 9 pounds 1 ounce, quite a big baby. Large head and feet, with long fingers. She was quite perky, trying to eat anything that came close to her mouth. Seraph and Robbie look a little dazed, but no more than as can be expected for new parents. Even though Isabella slept most of last night, they couldn't sleep until 3 in the morning.
I'm going to work on getting some bigger pictures in the photo album. Tonight I'm going to try to post some of the movies that were taken last night.

Well, I slept through the exciting part
January 23, 2001 by Adam in Family
Well, I slept through the exciting part. Evidently we got a phone call during the middle of the night letting us know that I have a niece. Don't have any other information besides that. At least, I think that's what happened. Jamie tried to wake me up and tell me. I remember she kept saying something like "do you know what I'm saying?" I must not have been too coherent.

9 PM
January 23, 2001 by Adam in Family
9 PM. When I left the hospital, Seraph was definately starting to feel it. She'd be perfectly normal one minute, then crushing her squeeze toy with all her might. Quite a crew was assembled as well: Sadie, Alan, Robbie, Hanni, Dick, Sue, Darren, Sam, and myself. Contractions were 2 minutes apart, so I'm guessing that we'll see a baby sometime after midnight.

January 23, 2001 by Adam in Family
Well, it's 5 PM and I'm at home. I'm going to probably eat some dinner, rest a bit, then head back into the fray. Seraph and Robbie seemed to be in good spirits. Seraph had her pitosin at noon, though the baby won't probably appear until tomorrow. I also have the scoop on the baby's name: Isabella Francis Ryn Cortez.

January 22, 2001 by Sadie in Family
Seraph and Robbie are in the labor and delivery section of the hospital (room 201), chillin' and contemplating parenthood. with two digital video cameras, a tape recorder, and three cameras so far, this will officially be the most well recorded birth in the family. A sound track and tickets to the theatre replay will be available soon.
All expect the baby to come tomarrow, but we plan to camp out until the bitter end. Fortunatly, my five more days significant other (AKA Alan) will be bringing food tonight, and Adam has a years supply of peanuts in his cubical. I think we're set.

January 20, 2001 by Adam in Family
In honor of the impending baby, I put up a video titled Pushing the Baby Out. It was the favorite of the various movies I took last year, where Sam demonstrates the miracle of birth.
Sam was up at 5:30 this morning. My usual blissful weekend morning, filled with coffee and playing with my computer, was not as intended. Instead I made breakfast, watched cartoons, built forts, and looked for treasure. Such is the price of fatherhood, I suppose.

Well, I've got the latest scoop on the new baby
January 20, 2001 by Adam in Family
Well, I've got the latest scoop on the new baby. I called Seraph and she said that it's coming very soon. If it doesn't come naturally this weekend, they're going in for Monday at noon to induce. So, expect exciting baby news very soon!
I won the MVP award at work - given to three employees a year. It's nice, and I get a jacket and gift certificate. The hard part has been trying to come up with increasingly witty things to say with each congratulatory e-mail. Ah, the price of fame.

Sam wanted to take a picture of me last night...
January 16, 2001 by Adam in Family
Sam wanted to take a picture of me last night, so here it is. He's turning into more of a character every day. Last night, we were at the supermarket checkout stand. I was explaining how the lady moved the food over the window, and that inside the window was a laser. Sam replied, "Just like Buzz Lightyear!". So, evidently he now associates scanning bar codes with his favorite movie superhero.
Called Robbie last night. Still no baby yet. They've got another ultrasound this Friday, so we'll hopefully find out an ETA fairly soon. I've got the video camera and tripod packed and ready.

We're back from our dream vacation
January 14, 2001 by Adam in Family
We're back from our dream vacation. It was pretty wonderful - I read a book and a half and we watched three whole movies. Breakfast in bed (though it was vaguely like airplane food). The room itself was quite expansive and we basically stayed in it the whole time.
We were telling Sam, Judy, and Jim our adventures. We had gone to dinner at Poppy Anatolia's. After I said that, Sam repeated what he thought I said: "Monkey on the Toilet". Ah, the joys of 2-year-old humor.

January 13, 2001 by Adam in Family
Jamie and I are ready to go off to our romantic getaway, one of Jamie's Christmas presents. Jim and Judy are watching Sam today and tonight while we check in to the Phoenix Inn. Since we've been married for almost six years now, I'm bringing a bunch of movies to watch and Jamie's brining her knitting. Pretty boring, but bliss to two people who spend their days watching a two-year-old run around the house screaming "I'm a rocket! Blast off!"

Sam gave us a big scare today
January 09, 2001 by Adam in Family
Sam gave us a big scare today. Jamie gave him a bit of candy, which he immediately proceeded to choke on. She quickly did the heimlich manuver on him and told him to cough. The offending candy popped out on the floor, but gave us all a big scare. A big thanks goes to Jamie for watching Sam so carefully.
By the way, the photo isn't him actually choking. It's just Sam's re-enactment of the scene.

Another fun filled weekend comes to a close
January 08, 2001 by Adam in Family
Another fun filled weekend comes to a close. I had Sam for much of today. We got Jenny's new computer ready to go. It worked well after some minor excitement. Sam and I also visited the park and played in the sand. Jamie actually had some time off this weekend, going to book club and finishing up a knit hat.
Sam and I also checked out Iron Giant. It was probably a little old for him - he made me turn it off a couple times. Still, he seemed to enjoy it. He marched around the house for an hour afterwards, pretending he was a giant robot.

January 07, 2001 by Adam in Family
I went over to my friend Chris' house for his birthday. He turned 30 and celebrated with a Star Wars themed party. It was pretty amazing how much Star Wars paraphernalia he had - cook books, music, Legos, action figures, talking communicators, trivial pursuit games, table cloth, and so on. Half the stuff was still packed away. Hey, by comparison I feel pretty normal.

One word: Mulan
January 04, 2001 by Adam in Family
One word: Mulan. Sam has been watching Mulan almost non-stop since we got it, taking the occasional break for Arisocats. The new DVD player is pretty cool - nice quality and more convenient than tape. Since Sam watches movies over and over, it's nice that the quality doesn't degrade much.
I've been back to work a couple days now. A bit rough, but I think I'm sort of on top of things. I only had 150+ e-mails to deal with, so it wasn't too bad.

January 02, 2001 by Adam in Family
The first day of the new millenium was pretty quiet. We visited Seraph and Robbie today, dropping off yet more baby things for the expectant parents. They had run into a balloon guy who had been at First Night and managed to walk away with this strange contraption. Finally, Seraph has one part of her body appear bigger than her stomach!

Happy New Year! We spent an exciting evening...
January 01, 2001 by Adam in Family
Happy New Year! We spent an exciting evening last night, though not for the usual reasons. We tried putting Sam to bed at 9 pm (sounded reasonable to us) and keeping him in his room until he fell asleep. Unfortunately, he'd slept in that day and taken a nap, so he didn't get to sleep until almost 11. We collapsed with exhaustion and snored through midnight.
