Hi, y'all, Lynn Shepard invited Sadie and me for dinner last week - Sadie house sat and baby sat for her, and she and I are going to see Whale Rider this evening. Sadie said she loved the movie but cried non-stop. I guess i'll take Kleenex just to be on the safe side.
Adam CD'd (that's not going to make it as a verb) 24, both the first and second season, and Sade and i have been watching it.
For some reason, my office has been frantically busy the last few weeks. I think it's because everyone is so poor and I'm so cheap.

When I was raising kids, I thought there should be real books with real advice and information, like, "Your newborn baby is not near death just because his or her poop looks like mustard with cottage cheese in it." Knowing that would have saved me a certain amount of terror.
When my brother Dick died, people tried really hard to say helpful things, but the only truth was that in a long time I didn't feel so bad. With my Dick, I didn't expect that I
would have a sense of unreality for so long. It's like the reference in T S Eliot's The Wasteland to "the third who walks always with us" - a reference by one of the early Artic explorers to the sensation that someone unseen was always travelling with them.
I think if I know ahead of time I am going to die, I'm going to write "airplane letters" and give them to people, like Jenny Minniti-Shippey used to do, so that people would have a letter from her to read while they were leaving on the airplane. Or you would be alloted an afternoon with the ghost of someone who died at the end of the first month, so
you could talk everything over with them and ask for advice
and where they left the recipe for split pea soup.

Sadie has been doing a wonderful job of keeping me busy and focused. Last week we took a lot of Dick's chemistry books up to Powell's Technical Bookstore, and were able to sell quite a few. Sadie continues to make chemistry book sales on e-bay.
I have been trying to have good times, too. A real treat was a visit from my cousin Linda and her sister in law Connie in late June. We had a lovely day at the coast, and they drove over to Bend before heading to San Francisco to visit a friend. Gary and Susan Carl took me along last weekend up to the "Lost Wagon Train" Pageant in Oakridge, which reminded me a lot of the Stallsmith family reunion. We've gone to Bridgett and Jason's wedding, and Kai's wedding. I was an Honorary Matron at Kai's wedding. I think that's probably an honor bestowed on the elderly. (But I did get a corsage).
