Emma had her two month checkup yesterday
July 31, 2003 by Adam in Emma
Emma had her two month checkup yesterday. She's in the 90th percentile for height and weight, so she's pretty big for her age. She does various tricks such as rolling from her back to her front and holding her head up very well. What proud parents we are.
She had her shots yesterday and she was quite the little trooper. Two in one leg and one in the other. She did her "I'm in pain" cry each time, but quickly quieted down. Jamie and Sam went out into the waiting room for this whole part, as Jamie hates watching her kids get poked.

Emma picked up a fungal infection, probably due to the heat and her massive fat rolls. Jamie was delving deep into the folds around her neck when she came across a red and sticky part buried in there. We went to the doctor who prescribed anti-fungal powder. Since then, we've been trying to keep the area clean, dry, and medicated. It's been 24 hours and looks far better. Emma's been a little fussy the last few days, but it may also just be normal baby fussiness.

It was a wacky evening yesterday
July 19, 2003 by Adam in Emma
It was a wacky evening yesterday. Sam was in a good, yet mischevious mood. He had been polite and helpful all day, and I think the strain caused him to go over the edge a bit later that night.
I decided to do some watering and Sam was into the chalk. He discovered that if the chalk gets wet, it makes an impromptu form of paint. While I watered the tomatoes and blueberries, he was busy putting strange marks all over every surface. Eventually, he decided that the brown chalk was "blood" and soon our entire backyard was covered with the stuff.
Jamie and Emma came out on the patio, with Emma bare naked to escape the heat. Sam, always wanting to engage Emma in play, decided to include her in his latest endevor. She was quickly covered from head to toe in terrible "wounds", all the while with Jamie watching on.
After my watering, I came upon this horrible scene. I took a few photos of the carnage, then we threw everyone into the bath tub for some cleanup.

I finally got some photographic proof that Emma's been smiling a lot lately. It's an elusive thing, quickly gone by the time I get my camera. It's for real, though, and no longer seem to be tied to digestive issues.
She's really interested in people's faces these days, recognizing Jamie and I quite well. Emma also likes sharp contrasts in light and will stare out the window for ages. She's also getting quite big, surprising me each time I pick her up.

Emma cracked me up last night
July 11, 2003 by Adam in Emma
Emma cracked me up last night. I was carrying her in her front pack when all of a sudden, she started laughing hysterically. What possibly could be that funny to a little baby?
In general, Emma's been a very easy baby. She continues to eat well, is fairly easily calmed, and is willing to just sit and look around when she's content.

I want to say that Emma gave me her first real smile today. I came up early in the morning after she'd been fed and picked her up to visit. She looked right at me and wigged her face around through different contortions. I think one of them was a real smile, though it's hard to be sure.
She's doing well, getting bigger by the day. I'm learning all sorts of tricks to calm her down when she's fussy. Last night it was more dancing around the basement while listening to music.
