Hi

April 30, 2001 by Sue in Wielesek

Hi. Well, travel plans are starting to ge. Sadie will stay in Noho until the Thursday before Franklin's memorial service, when I hope I can get her to Cleveland by plane. The rest of the plan is that she will get home the Tuesday after Memorial Day, stay until August 13th or 14th, and fly to Gabarone. Instead of going with her in the fall, I'll meet her at the end of her tour, and we will travel a bit before coming home. Love to all, Sue

April 30, 2001 by Adam in Adam's Games

Still playing Everquest, doing a little better these days. I think I've left the frustrating part and I've begun to discover the game a bit more. It's still challenging. I'm level five and still die occasionally. I've gotten over my head quite a few times. Still, I grouped with another guy for awhile, which was interesting. Getting good at whacking orcs.

Well, a member of our family left us today

April 30, 2001 by Adam in Family

Well, a member of our family left us today. We handed our dog Guy over to a new owner. Gene's as close to perfect as you can get, and I'm sure Guy will be very happy. Sam fills the quiet in the house quite well.

We had seven members of Jamie's family for breakfast this morning. I felt like I was cooking for an army, though it seemed to go over well. Tomorrow Jamie is teaching at Sam's preschool, as well as Wednesday. Wish her luck.

April 29, 2001 by Adam in Family

Jamie's family descended on Eugene yesterday, with Ray, Darrel, and Josh coming staying at the boy's house. We headed over to visit them. Also, Wendy is back permanently from her Washington school, so we visited with her too.

Jamie and I spent some more time looking at houses. We haven't found the perfect house yet, though we found a great one, except for the location. Beautiful older house, just a bit too close to the freeway.

We also have someone interested in taking Guy away. Although it will make our house much simpler, we will miss him. The new owner lives on four acres of land, is newly divorced, and misses his two shelties that went to his wife. Sounds like it will be a good place for our puppy.

My buddy Chris (who's server this site is running on) dropped some nerd news on me today. It turns out that if you go to Google and search for "case modifications", this site is in the top six. Woo hoo! Another nerd milestone.

A very quick hi to all

April 27, 2001 by Sue in Wielesek

A very quick hi to all. Dick and I were in the MS Walkathon last Saturday with his gang from work. One of his co-workers has MS, so they walk as a group. Nice people and lots of fun. Dick and I warmed up the weekend before with a forced walk. Fortunately, the half way point is a great restaurant, so he and I stopped to eat.

Babysitting fun with Sam last night and Dez tonight. For all their other grandparents, I promise I enjoy them a little extra, just for you. Isa is especially fun, because of course she changes from one week to the next.

We took my old fax over to Sam to be the control panel for his rocket ship. Sharp doesn't make very good fax machines (this one lasted a year), but they're hell on wheels when it comes to making rocket ship control panels. Love to all, Sue

Fairly uneventful week so far

April 27, 2001 by Adam in Family

Fairly uneventful week so far. Jamie and I went out for dinner last night, while my mom and Dick watched Sam. We also are starting looking for a new house. Jamie went out house hunting with Victoria, one of our realtors. No luck so far, but we're not in a rush. Sam's getting more and more imaginative these days. Playing pretend is one of his favorite games these days.

Well, I picked up Everquest last week

April 27, 2001 by Adam in Adam's Games

Well, I picked up Everquest last week. It's been referred to as "Evercrack" since it's supposedly very addictive. For some reason, it hasn't really hit me. I've played a couple times, though it's been more frustrating than fun. I've died a bunch of times, and can barely hold my own in a fight. Still, it might be more interesting down the road when I can actually go out and explore a bit. We'll see.

April 27, 2001 by Jamie in Jamie

I know no one probably even comes to my page anymore since I never write, but ha ha, I've fooled you all! My latest endeavor is house hunting with our agent Victoria (who actually remembers helping Brant get his house and asked me how he is liking it)
We are prepared to look long and hard, but of course the first day out I nearly fell in love with this beautifully preserved and maintained 1940 3 story on the east side of Hendricks Hill. I has all the original wood, trims and hardware! An actual Parlor, 5 bedrooms...the ones upstairs connected by sleeping porches, a big Wolf gas stove, on and on. But it is not close to a park and is close to the highway. Two marks against.
It has been kinda fun running through houses, dreaming of what the future may hold :-)

"I'm just like Pajama Sam!"

When we got the "Pajama Sam - No Need to Hide When It's Dark Outside" game, little did I know how much it would affect Sam. He now wants to dress up like Pajama Sam with his cape, gray flashlight, and red lunchbox. In the game, you need to collect those things before you face Darkness. Now Sam feels he needs to be similarly equiped. Yesterday, we went to the park with Sam all in costume.

April 23, 2001 by Seraph in Cortez

What a fun and exciting weekend! While Robbie was at his conference on Saturday Isabell and I played with Jenny, Darren, and Destin. We went to Saturday Market and a carnival at Gateway Mall. Isabell had a lot of fun watching all the people, and hearing all the noises! Those Banks' sure have fun figured out! Isabell was wiped out and spent most of Sunday sleeping or being grumpy. Thank you to Mom and Dick for watching her last night. It was fun to get out and talk to adults (sort of)! To mark her three month birthday Isa rolled over for Grandma and Gedu! We also got a call from Raven! Very exciting to her from her all the way from Dakar. She'll be back July 12th (yippy!!).

The nerd gene is strong in Sam

April 22, 2001 by Adam in Family

The nerd gene is strong in Sam. We got several adventure games for kids, and we've been playing them into the ground. He just finished up Pajama Sam's "No Need to Hide When It's Dark Outside", which was a big hit. He held on to the mouse for all but the hardest parts, though I helped him with some of the trickier puzzles.

Yesterday was beautiful, and we spent a lot of time outside. We broke out the hammock, which Sam's been playing on a bunch. Tonight is wine night, so we'll have Dave, Seraph, Robbie, Angie, and Matthew over for a yummy dinner. Great fun.

Robbie's off at a confrerence today, so Isa Ryn and I are on our own. We may go and play with her cousin Destin later. Not having Rob around sure does make me appreciate him all the more!

Sam and I went swimming last night and had a great time. I put a life jacket on him for the first time, and he went crazy. He would splash around by himself, giggling and flailing about. We played "rocket", where he would push off my chest and propell himself away from me. Great fun.

April 21, 2001 by Adam in Adam's Games

Still playing Black & White, though the thrill has faded somewhat. I was frustrated to find out yesterday that Arcanum, a game I've been looking forward to, has been delayed four months so they could translate it into different languages and have a worldwide release. The game's done, they just won't let me have it. Grr.

I suppose I'll give up and get Everquest to play for the next few months until better games come out. Dave's playing it now, as is my friend Jim. Supposedly, it's addictive, so I'll have to be careful with how much I play.

Sam got underwear today

April 18, 2001 by Adam in Sam

Sam got underwear today. He picked out the Darth Maul ones himself, preferring it over the Anakin themed ones. Figuring out how to use them hasn't quite happened yet. He did tell Jamie he had to pee once, though he managed to get all three pairs a bit soggy today. Still, another milestone for our boy . . .

April 18, 2001 by Carolyn in Carolyn & Alex Cortez

I love all the cute Isa pictures in the family album. Finally got the "real" pictures from Sears today and will mail them post haste To Rob and Seraph. They sure are cute, but Sears takes so long she probably looks different already!
It was 91 here today so it's getting time to visit the "cool" Northwest. Scott's Dr. changed his surgery so it looks like I'll be in Portland the last week of May now, so hopefully we can get the "kids" together. Maybe Alex can come then too.
We are going to be Grandparents again. Scott and Rebecca are having a little brother for Ellie due September 3rd. His name is Charlie. I love all the old names the kids are recycling these days. Ellie asked her mom if she can get back in her tummy when Charlie comes out! She is 2 and 1/2 now.

I just wanted to say how nice it was to have everyone over for Easter tea! Not only is it fun to see you all, but it's a great reason to get the house cleaned up!

April 16, 2001 by Adam in Adam

I ended up calling 911 for the third time in my life over the weekend. We had come back from an Easter lunch when we came across a car accident. It looked like there had been a collision and an SUV had turned over. One of the guys from the other car was trying to get into a store. I gestured that I had a cell phone and proceeded to call.

The crazy thing was that within a minute, three other people were calling on cell phones. Within a couple minutes, a police car was there and a few minutes after that, the fire trucks and EMT arrived. Crazy.

We had a good time on Easter

April 16, 2001 by Adam in Family

We had a good time on Easter. Sam had a wonderful morning, finding Easter eggs, eating chocolate, and visiting family. We had a blow-up Easter bunny, which he personally thanked for the various gifts.

We visited Ray, Brant, Dave, and Josh in the morning. Seraph and Robbie put on a wonderful tea around noon time. My dad stopped by and played with Sam in the afternoon, performing surgery together on playdough teletubbies. It's all good.

"This forest sure is creepy

April 14, 2001 by Adam in Family

"This forest sure is creepy."

This is what Sam said when we took a hike in the forest today. I think it's a line from Scooby Doo, which he watches far too often. Sam had a great time tromping about. At the end of the trail, he was ready to head off on another adventure. We decided instead to head back home for lunch.

We've also been getting ready for Easter. We're boiling eggs for decoration and Dave and Josh are visiting later to decorate them. Great fun.

April 12, 2001 by Seraph in Cortez

I will survive! Well, that was the mentality in our house the past few days. Isa is getting over the crud Robbie had last week, but only after two really miserable days. We too our gearing up for Easter. At church they've roped us into helping out again (though we really don't object much). I'm reading at Friday evenings Good Friday service, and Robbie's reading the part of Jesus in Jesus Christ Supperstar on Sunday. Service is at 9:30am, and all our invited! Isabell is getting cuter and bigger every day. I'm already starting a box of out grown clothes!

Sam's getting in the Easter spirit these days

April 12, 2001 by Adam in Family

Sam's getting in the Easter spirit these days. Today at preschool he went "egg huntin'" and found some eggs with stickers inside. I'm looking forward to this weekend, especially the egg decorating part. For some reason, that part is even more appealing than stealing the marshmellow chickens from Sam's Easter basket. Mmm . . . sugar coated marshmellows.

April 11, 2001 by Adam in Sam

I was giving Sam a bath last night. He was playing with the gel balls that are filled with oil, one of his favorite bath toys. I explained that we were almost out and he told me, "The next time we go to the store, we can get yellow ones and Johanna can get red ones" (Sam's favorite color is yellow and Johanna's is red). It appears that at age two, he's already picked a favorite color.

April 11, 2001 by Adam in Adam

I had a dream last night where an assassin poisoned me and I only had a minute to live. I asked his permission to write a final farewell to my family, but every piece of paper I found was covered in scribbles. So, just in case:

Jamie and Sam, I love you very much.

April 09, 2001 by Adam in Family

Sam and I went on an adventure to the park in the middle of the hail storm yesterday. It was great fun. Finally, with zillions of frozen balls pelting us, we decided to head to the car, laughing all the way. We picked up some bagels and headed home. Sam and I had to play quietly, as Jamie's book club was discussing various women's novels. Sam, on the other hand, spent his evening being pulled in his wagon, throwing paper airplanes, and playing tag in the backyard.

HI Folks, So much fun to read your entries

April 09, 2001 by Yayoe in Yayoe

HI Folks,
So much fun to read your entries. Good newz about GADzOOK.. "IT" is surrounded by all its mechanical friends (lathes, hammers, etc.)At night I hear the goings on in the garage. They seem to have some sort of weird heavy metal party going on until morning. Lohring's shops is almost done! The electrician has been very busy creating a lighting system that rivals a Hollywood set. We also found an electric furnace so there will be heat during the wild parties

Meadville: We depart for Meadville on May 23-28th. Sadie will be joining us there. Please do think about any stories or words you want us to share at Franklin's memorial service. Aloha/Shalom

Sam and I met Jenny, Robbie, and Dez at the library yesterday. We played with puppets and got a book about bugs that Sam laughed all the way through. Yesterday was pretty low key. Josh and Dave came to visit, though mostly Josh played on the computer and Dave enjoyed the many channels on our tv.

Friday rolls along here at work

April 06, 2001 by Adam in Adam

Friday rolls along here at work. I woke up on the wrong side of bed this morning, but strangely turned it around. I stayed up until (gasp) 10 PM last night, way past my bedtime. Perhaps that played a role.

I've been very good about minimizing caffiene and my workouts have included both weights and cardio. I spend most of my lunch hour in the gym, which makes me feel good about myself. I haven't weighed myself lately, but I suspect I've picked up a few more pounds of muscle(Ah-nuld would be proud).

I think our family is over the various sicknesses, which helps a lot. Everyone's mood is much improved. It's nice to come home to two smiling faces, rather than the gloomy, drippy ones from a few weeks ago.

April 06, 2001 by Seraph in Cortez

Our news will start to sound like Adam and Jamie's! There is sickness in our house!! Robbie has a pretty yucky case of the flu, but the doctor doesn't think it's strep. So far Isa and I have avoided it, but then again I won't let Robbie even breath on us! Isa is dealing with her first case of diaper rash by crying whenever anythng touches her butt, leaving me to feel like bad mother of the year. The "What to expect..." book says that the best way to cure diaper rash is to prevent it from ever starting. Duhhhh, even I could have writtin that advise.
Anyway, thank you Mom and Dick for babysitting last night. We feel much refreshed.

Ooooh, babysat Isa last night

April 06, 2001 by Sue in Wielesek

Ooooh, babysat Isa last night. There is nothing like a soft warm little kid to lower one's blood pressure and brighten one's day. We have Dez tonight, and I thought we might go to the new Pokemon movie.

I was a moot court judge at the law school Tuesday evening. It is always fun to work with students, so I enjoyed it. They give the kids a pretend problem to research and give appelalate arguements about; this was a labor law questions. Fortunately, the teacher gives the judges a cheat sheet, so I could ask questions as though I had a clue. It would be nice if life came that way.

Good thoughts to you out there in cyberland. Sue

April 06, 2001 by Adam in Family

Sam and I went to Toys-R-Us today and picked up a little Lego racer. He's pretty excited with it, though he'll occasionally let his mom do it too. It involves smashing something down with his fist and propelling a tiny Lego car across the playroom floor. Even better, the strange Lego driver is carefully designed to shoot out of his seat when it hits the wall. Ah, the joys of being two.

Sam woke up this morning and said, "Mom, I had a dream about water in the bathtub." Pretty amazing that he's figured out what dreams are so soon.

Sam and I played with his velcro balls yesterday. He was wearing his sweater, which turned out to be quite an excellent target for the occasional wayward ball.

April 04, 2001 by Adam in Family

Lots of news today! Seraph and Isabell came over for dinner last night (Robbie was sick). They're doing well after their exciting trip to Arizona. We have a bunch of baby racoons living under our woodshed. Guybrush continues to bark at them constantly, which is driving us nuts. Jenny found out she is having a baby boy. Evidently Destin was in tears, he wanted a baby girl so badly. Fortunately, his guinea pig had babies, one of which was a girl.

April 03, 2001 by Adam in Adam's Games

Jamie was kind to me and let me play some Black and White last night. I'm on the third world now, and I just finished converting one of the other villages. Because of a particular game twist, this was hard to do. I ended up building a village center close enough to the other village so that I could cast various miracles to impress the other people.

It's different and enjoyable, though I can see that my interest will eventually wane. I'm hoping that Arcanum will be out by the time I finish up with Black and White. That looks promising as well.

April 02, 2001 by Seraph in Cortez

We made it back! After returning from Tuscon on Thursday we went to Sunriver over the weekend. First we had to run to the doctors on Friday because Isa has a minor eye infection and blocked tear duct. Fortunatly it doesn't bother her! We're trying to settle back into life, by catching up on laundry and other household chores. Abig thank you to Mom and Dick for watching Ducky and fixing our sink (do you need anything besides you storm windows put up forever?). I'm taking Adam's lead and reading the Lord of the Rings (paragraph at a time - it's a bit slow).

Hi There,
This is my first official posting! Hope it goes well. Our new, non flesh and blood family addition is a 2000 pound milling machine called Gadzooks. Can you believe Lohring had to rent a crane to get it into the house! Darren, the crane expert can testify to that wild morning. Lohring's shops is slowly taking shape thanks to master contractor Darren.

I will be showing 4 of my paintings at PRN West at PeaceHealth Medical Group starting Friday, May 4th! Hope you have a chance to see my show, which also include another painter named Laura Effron.

Happy April Fool's day

April 01, 2001 by Adam in Family

Happy April Fool's day. I woke up to have my computer tell me that I was supposed to set my clock an hour forward. Unfortunately, it was for real and an extra hour of sleep magically disappeared.

It's been a quiet weekend. Lots of play time with Sam. We had fun taking his alphabet mat and turning it into tunnels. "Can I play with the letters again?" he asks as I type this. Time to get back to the boy . . .
