So here it is FALL already
October 13, 2002 by Lohring in Lohring
So here it is FALL already. Scheesh..time is moving so quicky and we all seem to be so busy. That's always a good sign. At my last posting Lohring was off to Montana. At this posting he is on his way back from Las Vegas. He and a friend drove down to the Gas World Championships, cracy/weird huh. Anyway, he did fairly well and will have some trophies and stories to tell when he returns. He also has a new work schedule which means he will be working in Grants Pass every week (gulp) leaving Wednesday afternoon and returning Friday evening. He loves his job and it pays the bills! Hurrah.
On Sunday...October 12...two of my walking pals and I did our walking marathon....all 26 miles in one day. The first 18-20 miles were easy then it became more difficult because my right leg was sore and my other friend had a sore left leg. Despite our pain, we limped/gimped along, over ate and rested many many times. It took us a total of 10 hours which included tons of potty breaks, lunch and snacking.
Luckily we were not concerned about how fast we walked. Our concern was that none of us ended up in the Johnson Unit for psychiatric treatment or the Intensive Care unit. We are strong but crazy crones who were committed to this goal. This was the BIG event before I turn 60 next year.
Contrary to the idea that you can walk away pounds we found that the opposite happened! To my surprise I gained 2 pounds from the experience. My friend also reported the same weight gain. Could it have been all the junk food we ate for sustenance? Does diet soda really have calories? Go figure!
Our marathon was an adventure, great fun and an amazing day! We ended up at Maria Calenders (again) eating hot Razzleberry pie with a huge scoop of icecream!
I'm also working for PeaceHealth on a referral basis doing employee consultations for parent care issues. So far I've seen 10 clients and am hoping to drum up more business. I love the work which is exactly what I do pro-bono for the Alzheimer's Association! So enough for now! Gotta go ice my leg.

Gadzooks
July 09, 2002 by Lohring in Lohring
Gadzooks. Can't believe we haven't posted our newz for months. Lohring is preparing for the NAMBA Nationals boat race which will be held in Springfield at THE POND. He will be preoccupied from this week on until July 21st! Full boats ahead and hanging out with other crazy "boatheads" from all over the country. There are 600 boats entered in this race! My job is to work in the "store" selling stuff for the club and trying to extract money from the "boatheads." This money will help pay for all the club expenses including 3 deluxe Porta-potties. Come out and visit if you have time. Use the potties for fun and excitement. IT should be a fun but very noisy boating event.
Meanwhile, I'm still volunteering at the VIM medical clinic. The clinic was featured on national TV (Peter Jenning's show) a month ago! Very exciting. I'm also working very part-time for the Center for Senior Health doing care planing services specializing in dementia care. Part II of our Japanese garden has been completed. So far a few neighbors have visited and THE unwelcomed DEER, whom I have threated with brooms and stones! I feel like making Sashime (raw deer) out of them. They would be a big hit for ambivalent Vegans considering a return to meat. Yucky Yum.
Sayer, my nephew and his lovely fiancee Sasha are getting married in Monmouth on September 6th. He is having only the immediate family at the wedding but there will be a wild and fun reception on Saturday, September 7th at John Jones' warehouse in Eugene. You will all be invited to attend this soiree.
So enough for now. Gotta go now and chase THE DEER off my garden.

Gadszook folks
March 23, 2002 by Lohring in Lohring
Gadszook folks. It's been months since I last posted some newz in our section. So here goes: Lohring is off to see his mother and Danica and family on Friday, March 29-April 4th. They plan to do a special ceremony for Franklin and will bury the other half of his ashes in the Meadville Cemetary by the Miller family plot. As you recall we put half of his ashes in the Gulf when we visited Florida. Lohring is also working one additional day in Grants Pass so he is gone for 3.5 days every other week. I've grown accustomed to his absence but I don't like it very much. The good part is that he is bringing in the bucks and that makes us both happy for now!
Dorothy is coming to visit us sometime in May. She will first go to Seattle to help care for her sister, who is having surgery in April. I'll keep you posted when we know the exact dates. She also plans to sell the Florida house. It's too much upkeep and worry to deal with on a long distance basis.
We had unexpected but most welcomed guests this weekend. My two nephews stayed with us for an overnight and are on their way to Seattle. Max (Maclen) Marvit is the computer geniuss (Cal Tech) who helped develop "Disappearing Ink" and was written up in the Wall Street Journal and other newspapers. He's accepted a job in Seattle in a "think tank" and will evaluate whether he wants to relocate there on a more permanent basis. His younger brother Seth is also into computers but got laid off from the "Red Herring" magazine. He's currently looking for work and is thinking about going back to Japan since he is fluent in Japanese and majored in Asian Studies. You folks would really enjoy meeting these guys who are from San Franciso. He'd be great for Sadie! If only we could get them together. Sigh.
I proposed a wonderful part time job to Lohring that I could do at home with little or no expenses.I suggested he hire me as a private contractor to "get off his back." He could pay me either full or part-time at minimum wage and I could file quarter taxes to the goverment but he refused to help me fullfill my need to return to part-time work. Sigh. So enough for now. I'm expecting two house guests next week!
