Class of 2021

September 06, 2017 by Adam in Emma

Emma had her high school orientation at South today.  She says it wasn't great, but was generaly informational - they got a Class of 2021 t-shirt and a planner.  She met with her teachers and found her classes.  She said good things about her computer and algebra teachers, so I hope that'll all work out.

There was some excitement when they let Emma out early and she just missed the bus.  She started walking back and then called me.  I got to be her "guy in the chair" and started to lead her home before I realized it was faster for me to drive the two minutes and pick her up.  I dropped her off at Jamie's house and bid my farewells.

Tomorrow is her first day of actual classes.  Hopefully it all goes well.

Future Night Raider

June 22, 2017 by Adam in Emma

Emma graduated Spencer Butte last night.  When they told us to welcome our "future ninth graders" Sam misheard and thought they said "night raiders."  While he thought it was kinda cool, he was somewhat confused by everyone's seeming acceptance and clapping of the declaration.

It was a pretty good affair, kids being a mix of silly and formal.  Endless clapping.  Quirky songs and funny quotes from the kids displayed on a projector.  Sam decided he wanted to come along and give Emma a Fallout 3 art book he found in his room.  Emma got into Fallout, so it was a welcome gift.

Today is Emma's last day of school - they're off to Orchard Point park at the reservoir for the day.  I think she's a little nervous about high school in the fall, but hopefully excited in equal measure.

Fourteen

Emma turned fourteen on Saturday.  We all went out to Ambrosia and gave her a variety of mostly hand made gift certificates.  We took her to the art store to pick up supplies, with Sam and I patiently waiting as Isa, Berry, and Emma browsed and touched and fiddled with all the pens, paper, inks, and so on.  There were a couple video game gifts that Emma has been slowly working on.

I think Emma's year has been better than before.  She's made it through middle school and looking forward to focusing on academics next year.  Hopefully she has a good time.

Farewell Baby Teeth

January 13, 2017 by Adam in Emma

We took Emma to see my dad in a professional capacity today.  Her baby teeth were somewhat reticent about coming out, so my dad pulled them out today.  She did pretty well, despite being a little nervous.  They came out quickly and in a few weeks she'll get a retainer put in place to keep her teeth in place so her adult teeth can come in.
