15+ Years

December 05, 2011 by Adam in Adam

Last Thursday we celebrated our department's longtimers.  I've been at PeaceHealth for over 15 years (16 later this month).  While it's had its up and downs, I generally love my job and continue to be amazed that they pay me to do it.  Glen, my manager, put together a little slide for me to show to the 300+ people in HID.  It's a good thing I'm comfortable in a tiara.

Lisa

A coworker of mine died last night.

She's had issues with cancer off and on for eight years, with a long stretch of symptom-free.  Lisa and her husband lived in the San Juan islands in this beautiful house with a movie theater in the basement.  When we went to visit the Bellingham group last year, we visited her and had a wonderful time.  I talked with Lisa a couple weeks ago, thinking all was fine.

The cancer came back quickly, was very aggressive, and she died at home under hospice care.

Our team is pretty shaken up, and it brings back memories of Frank and his cancer almost ten years ago.  I'll be okay, though I'm being somewhat wistful today.

Last Dance

May 27, 2011 by Adam in Adam

Last Wednesday Joanna and I went swing dancing, the last time at Agate Hall.  The lighting is terrible, the angle is weird, and there's about ten seconds of some guy's butt in front of the camera, but we're having fun and look like we know what we're doing.

Last Day in Vancouver

March 02, 2011 by Adam in Adam

I just finished my morning run, waking up a little after five.  My sleep has been lousy the last couple nights.  No headache today, just scary dreams with my coworkers woven throughout.  Breakfast is soon, and then morning meetings followed by a drive back home.  We have our final swing dance lesson tonight.  Hopefully it's not too hard to peel myself away from kiddos.  I've missed my family.

It's been an interesting visit.  My impression of the job move date is that it's many years from now.  I also get the sense that many people will stick around, but few people want to move.  That's my plan so far.  And who knows?  Maybe they'll find some way to keep me around.  Then again, a ride down the hill to the U of O, coupled with tuition breaks, sounds very appealing.

I finally put together a video of last weekend.  Both Mardi Gras and Splash! were really loud, so turn down that volume.
