Grandma Eddies birthday flowers are beginning to bloom at Normalville. They are also at their peak on her birthday. Also a picture of some snake skins I found in the side yard. Probably what I hear in the attic at night!

Happy Birthday, Sadie
June 10, 2006 by Betsy in Betsy
Happy Birthday, Sadie. Congratulations, Mikayla. I am stuck in Ohio suffering from a horrible head cold. I coughed so hard last night I almost got up and drove myself to the ER. What terrible misdeeds did I do to deserve a summer cold? Best wishes to all. The Midwest clan

April 17, 2006 by Betsy in Betsy
The Steane family gathered in Dayton on Saturday to celebrate Lil Steane Lewis' life. I drove over from Normalville and the get together was at the Dayton Country Club. It was a beautiful day and so nice to see everyone. Ann, Dave, Larry and Deepti (his new wife), Allen, Jeannie, Jessica, Arthur Jr., Georgia, James, Pam and her husband and their two children. Peter Pontius had some surgery and was unable to come with his wife and Andrew Lewis (Jessica's twin) is in California. I went back to the house afterwards and Ann had some pictures that I will send to applicable parties. The Lewis house is an incredible peice of real estate but unfortunately is a dinosaur in the present market. I think they may have a difficult time liquidating and selling. It was good to see them all and they all spoke about wanting to get together again for a Steane famiy get together sometime in the future.

Meg, Oberlin College is a great school
April 11, 2006 by Betsy in Betsy
Meg, Oberlin College is a great school. Located near Cleveland which is an extremely culturally diverse city with the lake and lots of activity. I will make it a point to visit! It's only 2 hours from my house. Just like Barney, Al, Lil and Buzz used to visit me. The circle of life.
Sue, I think its wonderful that you quit. My Bob, quit three years ago and it was the greatest thing he ever did for me! Since Dad's death I have taken to telling every single person I see smoking to try to stop. I'll probably get punched sometime but what the hay, I stick to my convictions.
If I don't get a chance Best Wishes for a great Easter. I'm leaving for Normalville with a work crew on Thursday. Hugs to all, P.

March 01, 2006 by Betsy in Betsy
Well scratch that, Granpa Bill left ICU to a room in hopes of getting out in the next few days and has had some relatively major set backs. After radiation yesterday he had some heart problems and was moved to the cardiac floor. Last night he had some breathing problems and is now back on the oxygen mask. Meg is sounding very concerened and has indicated that it may be time to change his resesitation orders. Please pray for him no matter what way things happen. Love, Bets

February 28, 2006 by Betsy in Betsy
News from Aunt Meg is that Grandpa Bill is getting better and wants out!! They are keeping him in the ICU for now until they can run some more tests. Apparently the muscle tissue in his esophagus is very loose and his food sits in there and ends up in his lungs causing the pnemonia. The fix for this may entail inserting a feeding tube, of course Grandpa Bill is not going for this. We'll just have to see what he decides. But its looking good that he will be back at Megs in the next week if he continues to improve.

February 25, 2006 by Betsy in Betsy
I talked to Granpa Bill this afternoon. They have kept him in the hospital. He has pnemonia and because the flu is running its course through Philly the only bed they could put him in was in the ICU. He sounds much better and is getting his oxygen stepped down to normal. No other word.

Grandpa Bill is in the hospital at Bryn Mawr
February 24, 2006 by Betsy in Betsy
Grandpa Bill is in the hospital at Bryn Mawr. He had trouble breathing this morning and Meg took him in. They increased his oxygen and he seems to be doing better. They probably will keep him today and unless something else changes he'll go home tonight. I'll keep you posted. Say some prayers. Love, Bets

February 18, 2006 by Betsy in Betsy
In the office today for a few hours and catch up and thought that I would send on some brief notes regarding our visit to Philly. Dad seemed in good spirits and mentally sharp. His biggest pain complaint seems to be from his back and it is unclear on whether this is a result of the fall or the accident.
Dick has reported all the medical particulars but in general Dad is just very weak. It is rather difficult for him to have visitors for more than a short period but
I am sure he would enjoy cards, letters etc..
The place in Florida is not actually closed and I think that if anyone would like to do some vacation time there you are more than welcome.
Best wishes, Betsy and the boys

February 11, 2006 by Betsy in Betsy
Talked to Granpa Bill this p.m. and they were almost to Meg's house. The train ride was apparently rough and he was coughing blood this morning. Not a good sign. He meets with the oncologist on Thursday. We'll see what happens. I know you guys miss her but I it is a great comfort to have your mom there. Hopefully she doesn't get stuck in the blizzard!

January 23, 2006 by Betsy in Betsy
Grandpa Bill was fine when I spoke with him around 5 p.m. He was confused about when your mom was due to arrive and admitted that he hadn't been feeling well and was concerned about staying by himself. He would like to have someone come and check on him and help him with minor day to day items. He does not want to go stay with Meg or go into a nursing home. He seemed perfectly lucid.

January 16, 2006 by Betsy in Betsy
It seems an interesting note to our family history that my sibling is off doing Grandmotherly things while I am still struggling with motherly things. A vast chronological gap in the family time trail. Although Sue, I must admit that when you offered to take care of everything for Dad and his car I was greatly relieved as I seem to be struggling to just keep my head above water this past year. But I still send miles and miles of love to you all accross the skies.
