Dorothy's special award!!!!
I'm pleased to report that Danica, Lohring and I accompanied Dorothy to a special event in Erie where she received the Outstanding Philanthropist award at the National Philanthropy Day luncheon. Over 200 people applauded her generosity. Her life-long involvement with theater and the arts led her to make the first significient contribution that launched a multi million dollar campaign to build a new theater at Allegeny College. The new lobby will be named after Dorothy and Franklin. She was also the first to donate to her Unitarian Universalist church's capital campaign. She also made it possible for future cardiac cath lab patients to receive treatments in Meadvile rather than having to travel to Cleveland. In addition to all these capital gifts she supported numerous charities including the Academy Theater, the Crawford Heritage Foundation, the Wesbury Foundation and the Port of Meadville Airport. We were so proud to hear about all her contributions and had tears in our eyes when she received the award.
Dorothy has come a long way with her recovery. Thanks to Danica, who has been her skilled case manager, she is getting stronger with the help of several caregivers and a personal trainer. Her progress has been steady and she's looking forward to our 2008 family reunion in Oregon, at the end of May. Danica is planning this event. We'll be back for Thanksgiving IF we make all our airline connections. Wish us luck with traveling during this time of the year where it's snowing here!

Traveling again!!!
Just a quick note to tell you that Lohring will be meeting the Miller/Mellor clan at Disneyland on Thursday and will be returning on the 12th. We leave for Meadville on the 14 and will be back late in the evening of the 21st.
Lohring will also be traveling to Australia/New Zealand from December 20-January 16th. He's heading to Australia for a boat race (crazy huh but fun) and then to New Zealand to see a dental clinic. I'll be in Honolulu from January 3-13th visiting Josh/Jody and little Rob. We'll look forward to seeing you all for Thanksgiving. I'll bring cone sushi and sparkling apple juice, etc.

Happy September! The Eugene Celebration is coming next weekend!!! The Ukulaney's will be playing music at the parade on Saturday, September 8, so look for me and a bunch of other uke nuts playing in the band. The Hawaiian music group I play with will also be marching together to promote ukulele playing! If all goes well I'll also be playing with the Iron Mango band in the future! Stay tuned for show times!
We're going on a national parks trip at the end of the month (September 27-October 7). We'll arrive in Las Vegas,(Lost Wages), travel to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, Little Bighorn National Monument in South Dakota, the Black Hills, and end up in Colorado. I'm taking up a collection from any willing pigeon who want to "invest" their money in Las Vegas. Send cash and other liquid assets if you wish me to invest your savings. Remember what happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas including your money!
Meanwhile, Lohring's last day at White Bird dental clinic was Friday. Sniff. They had a potluck party complete with a homemade chocolate cake to celebrate the year he spent at the clinic. With his new schedule he will spend several days working at the LCC dental clinic. He's looking forward to having more free time at home. I'm still doing counseling at Reliant Behavioral Health and work at the clinic on Thurday.
Dorothy is slowly recovering from her surgery with in-home help services. She's hoping to go to Italy in the late fall to visit Caroline's son who lives and works in Turin.
Let's wish her a speedy recovery.

HI There,
It's been so long since I last posted a family entry so here goes. Lohring is at his second national boat race in San Jose, California and due back on the 15th. The last one was in Washington. During that race I snuck a rubber chicken in his duffle bag and it turned out to be the best present yet. All the boat-head guys wanted their picture taken with it so now Lohring and the rubber chicken are famous.
On this trip I snuck a flying pig into his suitcase but he wasn't so crazy about it. It oinks as it flys through the air. Next time I'll find something real sinister to sneak into his luggage so that he gets arrested at the airport!
Tonight I'm taking a break from painting our living room wall. It's definately a big shock in terms of color.I wonder if I will scream in the morning when I wake up and see what mischief I have created. I almost called 911 after the first coat of paint went on the wall. Yikes!
My adventure at the Portland Uke Festival and camp was just amazing. Think of 130 uke players from all over the USA playing their ukes, taking classes and workshops and jamming in the evening. Then evening concerts back to back with famous uke/jazz players who play several instruments. We stayed at Reed College in the dorms and ate fabulous meals on campus. Looks like this will be an annual trek for me while Lohring does his boats.
By now you've all seen the article about Josh and his job as staff surfer. He has 5 surboards in his living room instead of furniture and now I know why. He's smitten with surfing. Gotta give him credit for getting paid to do it! Little Kekoa Marvit is a little over 2 months old now! Can you imagine Josh surfing with him in just a few years! Wow...Aloha for now.

HI Everyone,
I'm off to Honolulu on Monday and will return on the 24th. I'll have a chance to rock the newest member of our family in my arms while consuming large quantities of delicious island foods and pasteries. I've been busy working at Reliant Behavioral Health and seeing clients. It's very rewarding work. Lohring is working at White Bird and at the LCC HIV dental clinic. The dental clinic is slowly coming together despite not having a full inventory of supplies. Last week the feds did a site review of the project...they wanted to protect their large grant investment and choose Lohring's project because of it's unique model of care involving not only 3 community agencies but the assisting and hygiene students at LCC.
I'm still playing my 2 ukes and enjoy jamming with two local groups in the community. I sold my beautiful Harpsichord after 35 years of playing. I've transitioned from my chamber music phase to my uke phase. My playing is brilliantly mediocre but hey...it's still fun. Aloha

April 26, 2007 by Yayoe in Yayoe
We have a new family member! Rob Kekoa Marvit was born today...April 25 at approximately 2 PM Hawaii time. He was 7'14oz, 19'and doing well. Jodie was 1 day earlier than her due date with a nine hour labor. She said she couldn't have done the delivery without Josh, who was very helpful.
She described Rob as having a little pointy head from the delivery but adorable. He was only 3 hours old when I spoke to them....they are happy and getting their last good night sleep for many years! I'll keep you posted and will send photos once they arrive via email!

Special thanks to all of you for helping to make Lohring a very happy man on his 64th birthday. Sorry we missed Sadie and Bob but there's always next year....and of course Sadie's Royal Tennenbaum costume party when she turns 26!
And kudos to Adam for filming our birthday song to Lohring. I can't believe we were that offfff tune but hey...he didn't mind a bit. UTUBE sent us a disconnect note saying they did not allow noice polution on their site..feh...we just need to practice a little more. When I turn 64 I'm checking myself into a surgical spa so I can look like 60 and postpost hearing WHEN I'M 64 for another 4 years.
So as an update: we've postponed the Brennan family reunion until next year. If you have any other ideas for venues please let us know...it needs to be close and affordable...which puts us at Cottage Grove, Junction City, Eugene, or Springfield!...or..????
I'll be taking off for Honolulu in mid May to see Jody/Josh's new baby boy. I'll keep you posted to see if he's due on his arrival date of April 26.
So thanks again for another wonderful and fun family gathering.
