I have been watching the progress on our new fireplace insert and Rennai Continuum hot water system (the newest thing in ecological/economical water heating) one step away from solar heating! It has been two full days of construction, and now we have to wait for inspections. Frustrating, but I guess I'd rather have our gas lines properly installed than done fast...
I'm looking forward to the holiday season. Thanksgiving at Seraph and Robbie's "New" house, Sam's birthday, Mom and Jim coming for the big game, followed by our annual holiday cocktail party and our first Christmas in the new house. Lots of opportunity for celebration and enjoying family...in small doses, so as to keep myself relaxed and happy :-)
I haven't started anyone's socks yet, but I'm determined to figure it out soon. Just need some bad weather where I can't go outside even if I want to...plus a few more board meetings, at which I always make a lot of knitting progress.
I made a scrapbook for Angie's wedding, and was very happy with the result. It is a lot of fun, and just the right mixture of practicality/linear organization/creativity for my personality. I'd be happy to help others, or work on projects for a small babysitting fee :-)
Have a happy and healthy holiday season. I love and appreciate all my family and friends, which I hope you all know.

I've been frantically preparing for the opening of Tiny Tots and Preschool. Though there is much work to be done this week, the benefit is something to do with Sam for the Winter! He has become so energetic lately, I can't keep track of him. All this, combined with a distinct lack of napping, has made my time alone much coveted. I've been enjoying my new favorite channels on digital cable...BBC America and Home & Garden TV (although I don't know if it is good for me to get all these great home ideas when I can't implement them) I've convinced Adam that we need to build Sam a sandbox in the backyard, so hopefully that will be completed this weekend.
We are looking forward to a weekend with my family at the coast late in September, and a trip to the Portland Zoo coming up soon.
As for me, I just look forward to the start of SCHOOL :-)

I decided to post a little story about Jamie, since she rarely does it herself. :)

Jamie and I were walking around the park with Sam the other day. We were walking through a field of clover and warned him to be careful of the bees, since he had been stung a week ago. At that moment, Jamie was stung herself, getting a bee in her shoe.

We limped home and put baking powder on her foot. No permenant injury, though I think she had a newfound respect for Sam's bravery. When he was stung, he didn't cry much, and Jamie discovered just how much a bee sting hurts.

Well, I'm tired

July 02, 2001 by Jamie in Jamie

Well, I'm tired.
That pretty much sums it all up. I realize how much I depend on knowing where everything is and knowing everything works to get through my day. I picked out curtains this weekend, which actually helped make the living room much more warm and comfortable. I'm working on setting up my office/craft room on the main floor. It is a mess of paint cans right now, but I can see a nice space somewhere in the future for knitting and scrapbooking and coloring with Sam. I also worked on the sitting room upstairs, which gets a fabulous view of the sunset over the west hills.
Adam and Sam went to Pisgah to hike this morning, and I have a sore throat, so I'm going to take a hot bath and have some tea.

I know no one probably even comes to my page anymore since I never write, but ha ha, I've fooled you all! My latest endeavor is house hunting with our agent Victoria (who actually remembers helping Brant get his house and asked me how he is liking it)
We are prepared to look long and hard, but of course the first day out I nearly fell in love with this beautifully preserved and maintained 1940 3 story on the east side of Hendricks Hill. I has all the original wood, trims and hardware! An actual Parlor, 5 bedrooms...the ones upstairs connected by sleeping porches, a big Wolf gas stove, on and on. But it is not close to a park and is close to the highway. Two marks against.
It has been kinda fun running through houses, dreaming of what the future may hold :-)

Susan Kephart and a couple of her students have been working with the Camassia plants I worked with "way back" in college :-) They are presenting an abstract this Spring...find it at http://www.botany2001.org/section12/abstracts/128.shtml
I went back to my old research and was amazed at and proud of the terminology I actually understood at one time!

This weekend I got the time and creative energy to work on my scrapbook project. I'm doing a Sam one, and one for Dad of the kids growing up. I also have all of Dad's black and white baby pics that I'm going to do separately for him...it will definitely have to have a "nostalgia" theme :-)
I had a great time at the beach with Mom...we got lucky as usual and had excellent weather. Sam had fun, but missed "Grampa Jim", so we are going up to Portland late March to make up for it.
I am going to be busy with the preschool play the next two weekends...I'm an usher, and apparently we are to dress up as the city folks interpretation of a country girl (overalls, plaid shirt, straw hat). Yea, that's what we ALWAYS wore out on the farm ;-)
In my FREE time, I have about 5 knitting projects in the works, and a committment from my friend Angie to go for a daily walk after she gets off work.

Jamie has completed another knitting masterpiece

February 03, 2001 by Adam in Jamie

Jamie has completed another knitting masterpiece. For the last few weeks, she's been working on a sweater for Sam. It's finally finished and looks great. To top it off, Sam got a haircut today, so he wanted to show off the sweater and his goofy smile.
