Whew! Today is the last day of my Christmas vacation. It's been pretty exciting. I spent a lot of time with Sam. He's a super kid and we had a lot of fun. I also have even more respect for Jamie for taking care of him every day. Hard work too!

I got a digital camera ordered for me as my Christmas present. I can't wait until it's here. Supposedly, it can take still shots too. Expect a bunch of photos appearing on our site.

Christmas approaches quickly

December 21, 1999 by Adam in Family

Christmas approaches quickly. I'm in the middle of a two week vacation, spending a lot of time with Sam. At the moment, Jamie's off at the coast with Seraph, enjoying her first full day away from Sam (a mini-Christmas present of mine).

Sam's still growing. He walks very well, and is able to do a bunch of new things (feed himself with a spoon, go up/down stairs, climb up on couches, etc.). He's also getting very verbal. He learned the word "onion" this morning. He also has a new game where he'll hide something, come up to me and shrug saying "ein" (short for "I don't know"), then go back and find it again.

It's been nice to take the time off work, though it's a very different schedule indeed. Instead of assisting customers with computer problems, I've been assisting Sam with his diapers. Still, he's a great boy and it's fun to be around him.

Just got and finished Planescape: Torment, all within a few days. It was a great game. The story itself was intriguing - your main character starts out dead, and it improves from there.

I'm still plugging away at Ultima IX. It's still pretty good, though it didn't draw me as much as Planescape: Torment. Still, it's the last of the series that started when I was in my early teens. I feel obligated to finish it up.

So many new words I can't list them all! Rattle, water, truck, are among the favorites. He's a whole new boy with this walking around thing, and he loves going up and down the stairs (saying up down up down all the way!) He likes the lights on the Christmas tree, too. Fortunately we put the tree on a table, so he can't reach all those pretty "Balls".

Sam had his one year doctor visit today

December 03, 1999 by Jamie in Sam

Sam had his one year doctor visit today. The Dr. was AMAZED at his vocabulary... even taught Sam some brand new words right in the office. Sam is learning so fast, Adam taught him how to blow on the bubble wand as I sit here typing this. The unpleasant part of the Dr. visit was of course three shots (for the first time in the arm...which must hurt more than the leg because Sam really cried). Sam is 21 pounds (25th percentile) and 30 inches (50th percentile) and in excellent health. He has also weaned himself from breastfeeding and is walking. I guess he took this transition to toddlerhood thing seriously!

Sam's officially one year old

November 28, 1999 by Adam in Family

Sam's officially one year old. Not only that, but he just started walking. The house hasn't been the same since.

On other exciting news, we finally got rid of Jamie's old t.v. and bought something made in this decade. It's a bit on the huge side. I've got to get used to the fact that we're a "big t.v." family now. Weird.

Well, I'm a bachelor for the next couple days

November 23, 1999 by Adam in Family

Well, I'm a bachelor for the next couple days. I'm off work today and Jamie and Sam are up in Portland visiting Judy. I've become super-productive man. This morning I baked a cheesecake, made apple pie, spread massive amounts of wood chips over our garden, started a load of laundry, and all on only two cups of coffee!

The rest of the day involves shopping, getting Christmas presents ready, cleaning the house, dinner with family tonight, and a few miscellaneous projects. I'm hoping I don't collapse from exhaustion.

November 23, 1999 by Adam in Adam's Games

I finished up Darkstone and wiped it off my hard drive. I also uninstalled a bunch of miscellaneous games that I've been playing. This is all in preparation for Ultima IX and Planescape, and I now have 3.6 GB of defragged space ready to go. Ultima's coming out tomorrow, and I've reserved the afternoon for some concentrated gameplay. It's been five years since the last one. I still remember playing Ultima III when I was a freshman in high school.

I tried flashing my BIOS the other day, so I could upgrade my CPU. No luck. It appears that I'll be running at 300 Mhz for a few more months. Around Summer of next year, I'll probably build my own system. I'm leaning towards fast and cheap, though there are a few items that are going on my extra list. The big items are CPU, memory, and video card. I'm hoping I can keep all those under $1500 or so. That way I can throw in some extras like DVD. Great fun.

My annual cook-till-ya-drop fest has begun

November 23, 1999 by Adam in Adam's Projects

My annual cook-till-ya-drop fest has begun. I started with pumpkin cheesecake and apple pie. Later today is Sam's spice cake and stuffing. I'm also going to whip up various bread items tomorrow for Thanksgiving and Sam's birthday. I can tell this is going to be ongoing, as we have the two events so close to each other.

I decided to break down this page into the main page, the game page, and the projects page.

We had an e-mail at work from someone who felt she should see a doctor immediately. After some frantic phone calls, we got in touch with an emergency room physician and got it straightened out. It was almost as good as the e-mail from the "Chinese Magic Company" selling lumbago cures.

November 13, 1999 by Adam in Adam's Games

A couple computer games have gone gold and should be released soon: Ultima Ascension and Planescape. Both are fantasy RPGs and should be out before Thanksgiving. Fortunately, I'm taking some time off, so I'll hopefully have some time to play.

Played Magic with the guys at work yesterday. We played Rainbow, where everyone played a particular color. I lost both times, but had a lot of fun.

Jamie's dad is coming over today

November 13, 1999 by Adam in Adam's Projects

Jamie's dad is coming over today. Hopefully we'll get a chance to put in the bushes he brought last week. We moved all of the roses from the front to the back. I'm hoping they survive the transition. There's tons of yardwork to do these days. I'm hoping we get a chance to actually do some.

The soap still needs to be cut, then wrapped and readied for presents. No big surprise what everyone is getting for Christmas. :)

November 13, 1999 by Adam in Sam

We got a clip of Sam, a juice box, and a straw on video tape that we're going to send to America's Funniest Home Videos. It's a classic.

Sam's been walking a lot more these days. It's usually only a few steps, but he's getting better at it. Every day, he just gets cuter.

Crazy day today

November 09, 1999 by Adam in Adam

Crazy day today. I was so exhausted watching Sam yesterday with Jamie gone, I went to bed at about 7:30. Unfortunately, I woke up the next morning at 3:30. The worst part is that I thought it was 5:30, so I drug myself out of bed, had a shower, and then found out the actual time. Sigh.

Sam's first birthday is coming up soon. As I type, he's playing with a piece of chewed up card, dropping it repeatedly as a type of game. Funny boy.

Sam's been saying so many words, we gave him his own page.

More big changes

November 05, 1999 by Adam in Family

More big changes. Jamie actually typed on her page today. We also put up our Christmas wish lists - you can see them on each page.

You'll also find the family tree completely redone. I've put up a more extensive tree and linked it to the photo album so that you can see pictures of the people. There's still a lot of scanning to do, but I think the basic structure is pretty close to done.

It's also a Friday. Jamie's mom is coming to town, so we'll be able to run around a bit. I think we may actually see a movie this weekend, for the first time in months. Jamie's brothers are also hosting wine night, so we're looking forward to that.

I guess the photo album is a big hit

November 04, 1999 by Adam in Family

I guess the photo album is a big hit. Our hits doubled in a couple days. Woo hoo - 34!

I scanned a couple more photos and put a link on the navigation bar. Also, there's some more Sam news.

Sam took several steps last night

November 04, 1999 by Adam in Sam

Sam took several steps last night. I was watching him play with a box by the couch. He pulled himself, turned around and stood by himself a moment. He walked towards to box, kicked it a couple times and finally fell down after making it across his play mat. Good job Sam!

I can tell he'll be walking for real soon. He enjoys holding on to our hands, walking around the house, and kicking any object he can. His two big words these days are "ball" and "cracker" (sounding like ka-grr).

November 02, 1999 by Adam in Family

I've been waking up at 4:45 or so each morning due to the time change. No fun at all! Still sick from a cold too.

On the bright side, I've been building a database to organize my scanned images and convert them to HTML pages for our site. You can take a look at the latest demo. Comments are welcome!

October 31, 1999 by Adam in Family

Well, I stole my dad's scanner, so I hope to get some more recent photos up soon. At the moment, I added the "family tree section". It's minimal, but I hope to get some brief descriptions of my immediate family.

It's Halloween today. The scariest part was waking up last night with Sam crying and my nose running something fierce. Blah!

October 29, 1999 by Adam in Family

The site's been up for only a week, and already I'm redesigining everything. Jamie decided that my categories of Home, Family, Work, and Play didn't quite meet her needs, so we've settled on one for each person. Jamie's also said she'd post things if I made it easy enough, so I'll hopefully work on that next.

Halloween is around the corner. Sam's dressing up as a clown. Jamie and I did have elaborate costumes planned (Raggedy Anne and Spiderman), but we just didn't find anything we liked. So, we're going to a kid party on Sunday as beleaguered parents.

It does seem there isn't much time to play these days. I go to work, watch Sam, and get about an hour of play in there somewhere. I do play Magic at work during lunch, which is fairly entertaining. My usual entertainment venue, my computer, is suffering a bit.

Weird work story a couple days ago. We got an e-mail from our Internet site from some physician who had been on hold for ten minutes and wasn't going to take it any more. It's bizarre what sorts of e-mail gets sent to us from our web site.

At the moment, I'm playing Darkstone, which is a fairly good dungeon crawl. Thanksgiving is coming up, which is always a milestone in computer games. I should be seeing Planescape and Ultima XI pretty soon. I suppose it's back to playing on my computer from five to six in the morning.

October 27, 1999 by Adam in Sam

I watched Sam tonight and Jamie went off to hang out with her brothers. While going through the closet, I found what we call the "Happy Fun Ball". Basically, you turn it on and it rolls around on the floor by itself.

I had Sam chasing after it, pressing it to his face, and watching it intently as he giggled and laughed. Oh what fun it is to be a baby.

Welcome to our home

October 24, 1999 by Adam in Family

Welcome to our home.

Although I've been working on the Internet for several years now, designing web based application for PeaceHealth, I haven't actually had a personal home page since the early 90's.

I'm hoping this will evolve into a place where friends and family can check up on our progress, hear and see the latest on Sam's progress, and drop a note to us.

Work is pretty hectic these days

October 24, 1999 by Adam in Adam

Work is pretty hectic these days. We went live with our company's Internet site last month, and the changes are keeping us very busy. I'm amazed at how many people are hitting the site, especially as we haven't published it yet.

For those who don't know the details, I'm the web application developer for PeaceHealth. Basically, I tie web pages to databases. Just call me Dilbert.

My soap projects continue

October 24, 1999 by Adam in Adam's Projects

My soap projects continue. Last weekend, I donned goggles and mixed up the soap, lye, oatmeal, and honey. Unfortunately, I didn't get the proportions of oil quite right and I had a few days of fretting hoping it would set. Finally, after weeks of poking and prodding, it seems that the batch did turn out okay. So, everyone's getting soap from Christmas.
