Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas family! We've been having a fun but quiet Christmas here in Chimayo. Yesterday we had Christmas Eve lunch with Hanni and then went to some friends for their annual Christmas Eve bonfire. This morning we got up and drank coffee until Isabell got up for stockings and presents. Poor Isa has had a small cold, so we drugged her up and plied her with presents and cookies. We're off to take a small holiday drive and then relax some more. Hugs to everyone! We miss you all!

Made it!

We made it in to Portland last night. Our trip was surprisingly smooth and hassle free. Anymore, we just let Is take the lead in airports, while we tag along like lost puppies.
I'm getting some school work done this morning, sipping on so-so hotel coffee. Mom will. E picking us up later and spending the day puttering around The Pearl checking out our old haunts. Our schedule is pretty booked up this first week, but hopefully we can tuck in a little pre-coast visit with everyone.

It was a good day for the Cortez family. Today was Isabell's last day of middle school. Next year she's off to high school! Robbie and I still have work tomorrow, and we'll probably be around the school next week because Robbie is moving rooms. I also got offered a new position at the school! In NM you can apply for an internship license once you've taken your initial set of exams, are enrolled in a certification program and already have your bachelors degree. So, with this provisional license in hand I will be the new special ed teacher for the upper grades (5th & 6th, maybe 4th depending on the case load). We're all excited to see everyone in a few weeks! I think 1 large cake will be required to celebrate all the birthdays going on.

Flights Booked

We booked our flight to Oregon last night! We will fly in late on 6/15 (Monday) and stay over in Portland before heading to Eugene on 6/16. We fly back to New Mexico on 7/2 (in the evening).
We have a wedding to go to on 6/21, and we're starting to put together plans to see some old friends in the days leading up to the beach trip. We'll keep you all updated as plans develop!

Sick days

Robbie and Isabell have both been battling bouts of the stomach flu. Robbie is mostly recovered, but Isa is home for another day. She recovered enough yesterday to request some nostalgic Monkey Island game time. With five weeks of school to go, I hope she's up and moving soon.

Tests!

I just finished my Basic Skills tests for the special Ed certification program. There will be more tests throughout the program, be these covered basic reading, writing and math. It's been a great reminder of how much I've always hated test taking!

Spring break

 Isa got into Greenfield safe and sound. She said Simon was taking a bath then they were all going to bed. Considering she was up at 3:30 am I'm sure she was pooped!
Robbie (who finished his sixth pilgrimage yesterday) and I went out hiking today and found a beautiful canyon and river near our house. I think more summertime exploring will be required!
